Whilst we’re the first to admit we’re not hardcore Bob fans and we don’t take to the streets wearing “Bob Rules!” t-shirts, we caught up with the latest and greatest Bob songs during the week on Spotify and were quite looking forward to the concert given we at least recognised some of his songs during our office research.
A visit to the capital is always a novelty for us given our Peterborough location and Boris Johnson didn’t fail to deliver in adding to our experience. Having struggled out to Greenwich on a criminally inadequate rail-replacement bus service, Surely the legendary Bob wouldn’t fail us with his performance?!?
I think the Telegraph said it best in their review of the event:
“Dylan, plainly, is just trying to keep himself interested. In that light, his decision to play nothing whatsoever from Together Through Life was unfathomable – all the more so, since he and his able five-piece combo sparked into life while tackling newer material, such as Rollin’ and Tumblin’, Thunder on the Mountain, and ‘Til I Fell in Love with You.
With neither big screens nor a single word of between-song banter to engage the crowd, this lurching performance left the room stone cold, only to be picked up by a faltering take on Like a Rolling Stone, and, in the encore, All Along the Watchtower.”
The legendary Bob Dylan had unfortunately faltered out ….
Looking back though, it was a great night and only IWOOT could have managed to turn a dour concert into a great event in the way they did.
Having arrived slightly before the other guys I propped the bar up and watched as O2 security scanned through IWOOT’s toys and robots they had bought to entertain their guests for the night, the security guards faces as the I-Sobot went through the x-ray was priceless.
Having determined we were no threat to security we were whisked through the backstage of the O2 to a champagne reception in our very plush private bar. The mix of champagne, beer, canapes and gadgets seemed to work perfectly and the IWOOT and O2 staff looked after us all very well.
So a Huge thanks to all the IWOOT guys, Joe and his wife, Everyone from Affiliate Window, The guys at Artemis8, Julian’s friends and everyone else I’ve (unintentionally) missed off this list for making it a great night.
I had further exploits on the way home with one of the members of my team having drank far too much beer for her own good, but it would be harsh for me to name and shame her … wouldn’t it Kelly Frew … :o)
